The approach to formation evaluation used by Stimulation Petrophysics Consulting is a structured methodology incorporating all the wireline log data (open hole and cased hole), mud logging, drilling and core evaluation that is provided or available into a single interpretation. For display purposes, this model is broken into two components: (1) the traditional sand and carbonate reservoirs and (2) the non-traditional shale intervals. The main objective of this evaluation is to determine the reservoir storage capacity, flow capacity, mineralogy and mechanical rock properties while honoring physical data measurements. The results of this analysis are instrumental in the pay zone identification, stimulation treatment design and reservoir modeling.
When evaluating the non-traditional “shale” intervals, instead of maxing out the “shale” volume as is typical for a clean formation analysis, an attempt is made to determine the clay volume within these high Gamma Ray intervals. The fluid contents of the free porosity can be evaluated and used for resource evaluations. The figures above show the volumetric and rock properties segments of the Shale Evaluation Analysis log.
